BROOKDALE FARM

Strawberry Tours

Spring is coming to Pungo! Soon it will be May—time to visit the country and pick strawberries! We are pleased to once again offer our popular Strawberry Tour field trip to you and your students.

Farm Animals — Discover how real farm animals look, feel, sound, and smell. Learn how various animals are alike and how they are different. See and learn about our sheep, horse and donkey.  See hay, grain and prepared feeds that our animals eat.

Strawberries — Students learn about strawberries and how to pick them properly.  Each child receives a one-pint plastic clamshell to fill with delicious, red-ripe strawberries to take safely home. Adults receive one-quart containers.  You’ll soon know why “The best berries are the ones you pick yourself!”

Hayride Join Farmer Baker on a tractor-drawn wagon ride to the vegetable field.  See sweet corn that will be harvested starting in June.  Learn how floating row covers protect our earliest plantings from early spring cold.  Observe early squash and zucchini.  Learn the differences between soil and dirt and between plants and weeds.

Picnic — Enjoy your snack or picnic lunch before or after your tour.  Use our picnic tables or bring blankets and sit on the grass the old fashioned way.  Sure beats the school cafeteria!  Trash bags are provided so you can carry your trash back to the school dumpster.

Personal Touch — We specialize in working with public and private school groups, from pre-school through third grade. Parents are encouraged to join your field trip. Special-needs students and classes are always welcome at Brookdale Farm.

Prices — Contact us for pricing.

Reservations — Please call us at 721-0558. If we’re out in the field, please leave a message and we’ll call you back to schedule your visit. Please leave both a day and an evening phone number.

Location — We are located at 2060 Vaughan Road, just off Princess Anne Road, four miles south of the traffic light in "downtown" Pungo (intersection of Princess Anne and Indian River Roads) in Virginia Beach. We’ll send a map and detailed directions with your confirmation.

We look forward to seeing you!
