Pumpkins
Fall is the time for cool weather, heading back to school, football and of course PUMPKINS!
We raise big and little pumpkins. Pumpkins are not the easiest thing to grow here - they do not like a lot of rain and humidity. Whole crops have been lost to hurricane damage.
We will have u-pick pumpkins at 2133 Mt. Pleasant Rd in Chesapeake. There is nothing like hunting up your pumpkin in the field where it is grown and cutting it off the vine. That is the old fashioned best way and it is even more fun when you go on a horse drawn hayride. We also have face painting, pumpkin painting and scarecrow making. Our Chesapeake location will be open only on weekends
Here are some pictures of a the team waiting to give you a ride.

Pumpkin Weekends continue at our
Chesapeake farm this Saturday from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. We will
have the same hours next weekend and also on Saturday, October
31. Hours are weather permitting, of course, but we are hoping
for nice fall weather like we enjoyed last Sunday.
We still have plenty of pumpkins
and they are extra nice this year. We are unique
among local pumpkin places in
that we really do grow ALL of our own
pumpkins, either in
Chesapeake or in Pungo.
The Chesapeake field is two
acres, plus we have another three acres of
pumpkins at our
Pungo farm from which we
replenish the Chesapeake
field. Where else can you go to a real
pumpkin field and see real
pumpkin vines and flowers?
We've had such a good pumpkin
year that, in addition to the expected orange-ripe
pumpkins, we still have green
pumpkins growing on the vines. Some kids want to
take home a green pumpkin.
We're in the business of making people happy, so who are we
to say, "no?"
Gene Carter is back again this fall with horse-drawn haywagon
rides. We just couldn't have our Pumpkin
Weekends without Gene and his team of Belgium draft horses,
Ben and Bill. Bring your camera because pictures with Ben and Bill
are free. Hardly anyone wants their picture made with Gene...I
wonder why? He's a mighty nice guy. Maybe you can get a
picture with Gene this weekend...it would his day!
Our new kids play area has been a hit! With face painting, a
small straw maze, corn hole, and duck races, there's something to
keep any kid happy, for sure. Speaking of the duck races, I'm not
sure what is more popular--racing the ducks or just pumping the
water. You'd think kids today have never seen an old-fashioned
water pump. Well...I guess most haven't!!!
Our "extra" activities are easy on your pocketbook. Separately the
hayrides and play area each cost $3.00, but
for just $5.00, kids can do both...take a haywagon
ride and enjoy the play area, including having their
face painted.
For just $15.00, you can make your own
scarecrow. We provide everything you need, including
hands-on instruction. Maybe you can make one and take him to
work...sit him in the stall in the restroom and scare the jeebers
out of your co-workers. Priceless!!!
We also have a good supply of apple butter
and pumpkin butter and our famous
salsas, including peach, pineapple, black bean, corn, and
cranberry salsas. We may run out of
cranberry salsa, though...I think folks
are buying it up to save for Holiday parties.
Finally, we also have corn stalks and straw bales for your fall
decorating needs.
As I said last time, "Old-fashioned
activities...old-fashioned fun!" No bright lights.
No scary stuff. Just real fun for your entire family.
We hope you'll come see us this weekend!
